About the Story

A brutal family massacre shatters the quiet suburb of Oakwood, and all signs point to Jess Lewis — a forensic science student who wakes up covered in blood with no memory of what happened. Diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Jess’s mind becomes a maze of fragmented personalities, each guarding parts of her life she can no longer access. As the investigation tightens around her, she’s forced to ask the unthinkable: Could one of her alters be the killer?

Detective Jackson Sinclair is determined to uncover the truth, but what begins as a straightforward case spirals into something far darker. As he delves deeper into Jess’s fractured world, Jackson finds himself questioning everything — including his own instincts. Someone is pulling the strings, and they’re not finished yet.

As shocking secrets surface and time runs out, Jess must confront the darkest corners of her mind before everything — and everyone — is lost.

Why This Story Matters

Fragments of Affection isn’t just a thriller — it’s a deeply personal project born from empathy, collaboration, and a desire to bring authentic representation to the page.

In researching this novel, I interviewed over seven people living with DID and partnered with multiple systems who generously contributed to the story — through diary entries, artwork, and extensive questionnaires. Through this journey, I made new friends, heard powerful stories, and witnessed courage in the face of misunderstanding.

This book is my way of helping their voices be seen and heard, wrapped in a gripping narrative that honors the complexity of identity and the human mind. It’s a work of fiction — but it’s built on very real lives.

Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, Lucinda Berry, and Lisa Jewell, Fragments of Affection is a chilling psychological thriller that blends suspense with soul — and will keep you questioning everything until the final page.

I’m Danielle Blum — an author, traveler, and multi-passionate creative drawn to emotionally charged stories about messy women, haunted pasts, and unexpected connections. My psychological thriller, Fragments of Affection, explores trauma, identity, and the fractured spaces between memory and truth — and it’s one of the most personal stories I’ve ever written.

Up next is Postcards from Rock Bottom, a raunchy, vulnerable rom-com series full of offbeat chaos and characters you’ll laugh with, cry for, and maybe feel the urge to text at 2 a.m.

I’ve explored over 40 countries, always chasing the absurd, the beautiful, and the broken parts of being human. When I’m not writing, I’m probably painting, taking photos, or designing boutique travel itineraries. I live in Portugal, surrounded by ocean air, overgrown houseplants, and entirely too many notebooks.

Fragments of Affection is more than just a book—it’s a passion project years in the making, stitched together with sweat, blood, and tears. As a psychological thriller exploring identity, memory, and healing, it deserves to be crafted with care and intention. That means hiring a professional editor, a skilled cover designer, and talented artists to bring the story—and its many layers—to life. I want to create something truly special: an artisan collector’s edition made just for the first fans, something you won’t be able to find anywhere else. This campaign isn’t just about funding a book—it’s about giving back to the people who believe in storytelling, vulnerability, and big creative dreams. Kickstarter is a platform that supports bold, independent ideas like this one, and your support allows me the time and space to create something meaningful. This book is a thank you, a love letter to the early believers, and I’ll be fully transparent about where every dollar goes—because this is our story now.
